Just six minutes later, Havertz doubled Arsenal's lead, heading home from close range after a superb cross from Oleksandr Zinchenko. The goal was Havertz's first for the club since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer.
Brighton attempted to rally late in the game, but they were unable to find a way past Arsenal's resilient defense. The Gunners held on for a deserved victory, putting pressure on second-placed Manchester City, who face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
